Went down to Anglesey Sunday mainly just to straighten out a bit of wiring on the boat & do a bit of fishing in the afternoon if we had time only had a couple of hours & loads of doggies but was nice to get a day away from home didn't take any photos because I left my phone in the motor but I think everyone knows what a doggie looks like

I am not so sure that we do - is it a dogfish, or a catshark ?? ...

For Musselman. Those sites are intersting, and could cause a bit of confusion in the species hunt. A good photo should sort things out.
We have the spiny dogfish in NZ, here mostly in the winter or deep water, but they can be a nuisance further south. They need carefull handling as they can wrap themselves around your arm and spike you. The factsheet sais they are all round the earth in temperate waters

Interesting article Tatch,nice one.
It made me wonder if they are eaten by any other species.
I cut one up and threw the pieces over the side, the fishfinder went mad.
The tide was turning,so we had to leave the spot.
I wonder what they would be like for bait.

Bullhuss will eat chunks of dogfish. I have heard if you chop a load of dogfish up as groundbait it scares other dogs off and draws the huss in

Thanks for the info Si,I'm learning. lol!

You obviously know the ins and outs of Rhyl harbour and slip, can you give me some advice?
I know if I launch 2.5hrs before high,I can come back in anytime up to 2.5hrs after high.
Could you tell me how long I would have to stay out if I launched 2hrs after high?
My boat is only 14ft,with an 18" draft.
It's the first time I will have been out in charge of my own boat.
Hope you don't mind me picking your brains. lol!

Excellent question! boat

Can we have a sweepstake on this one? My guess is 7 hours and 36 minutes (assuming an average tide) Laughing

Thanks MM,I'd worked it out to about 7.5hrs,but I don't want to make any mistakes.
Better to be safe than sad. lol!
The boat has no cuddy,so if the weather turns to rain,it's a long time to be sat in an open boat.
With a 75 mile trip there and a 75 mile trip back to Manchester it would make it a long day.
At 72yrs,I would be at my limit lol!
