First Time Out Empty
PostSubject: First Time Out   First Time Out EmptySat Jun 03, 2017 2:23 pm

My first serious trip out turned into a cracking Friday evening.

It had been raining all day, and was still raining whilst driving down to Rhyl in very heavy traffic. Luckily the clouds parted and the sun broke through as I was driving into the harbour car park around 15:15. I thought this must be a good omen, calm seas and now sunshine, happy days.

I managed to get out around 16:00 and was into my first of many dogfish by 16:30.

In just over three hours fishing I caught.

8 X Dogfish (It was a least eight, I lost count at seven)
2 X Bull Huss
2 X Mackeral
2 X Dabs
1 X Codling

and 1 beautiful Tub Gunard.  fish

A total of 16 fish in just over three hours.

I also had the company of a Grey Seal for an hour, which was a bonus.

What a wonderful evening's fishing  sunny

Did you tow your boat from N le W and launch it at Rhyl slipway?
I'll be taking my boat out for the first time soon, did you go out very far?

No, the boat is moored in the harbour at Rhyl. It was in Fleetwood (Skippool) until late last year, I think I made a good choice moving it to Rhyl.

I didn't go that far out. I just went straight out of the harbour until I was in about 30ft of water.

Thanks K,it helps me get my act together for my first time out.
Be the first time I've taken my own boat out,I've always gone out on my pals boats,so I thought I would have a dabble.
Be looking to go out late next week when the tides are suitable, and of course, the weather.
Towing the boat from Manchester,so everything has to be right or it could end up a wasted trip.
I thought about Fleetwood, but the currents and tides put me off.I don't know if it's me,but I find Morecambe bay a bit scary. lol!

Great, I saw a boat out there whilst walking the dog and wondered if it was someone we'd hear from
