Went out of Prestatyn about 2yrs ago to retrieve a lost anchor lost the week before,Me and my mate were in his boat and a boat with 3 divers came out from the club to retrieve the lost anchor.
Because of the algae, the divers said the visibility was only about 1-2ft.They had to have their arms extended out to feel the bottom. It seems like the algae forms from the River Dee.
When you shore fish at Connah's Quay, what seems to be weed on your line is actually cotton strands.Normally weed is not that difficult to get off the hooks etc was nearly impossible because it was not weed, but cotton strands.
Although the sanitation plants along the Dee obviously only release treated sewage,I wondered if the cotton strands were actually remnants of nappies and sanitary towels etc.
It seems the further away you get from the Dee estuary the less the algae.
Anybody got any theories?
