| The kids have been asking to go on a day out so after a quick check on the weather forcast we decided to take them to Rhyl today. On our way in to Rhyl it was raining which had me wondering if the person at BBC weather had been drinking because they give sun nearly all day. The missis and daughter wanted to stay indoors shopping which me and cole didn't want to do but luckily I put my new LRF set up in the car boot so the girls dropped us both of at the harbour After a quick chat with simon who was doing some odd jobs on his boat we set up on the pontoons. We set up with a savage gear rag worm kit and started a sort of spinning on the bottom to see if any flounder's would chase it. We tried both ends of the pontoon with only 1 take which came of shortly after striking it We only stayed a couple of hours which was very enjoyable fishing a different way for flounders and will be giving it another go next time were in Rhyl. My set up is a LRF savage gear rod 0.5g to 7.0g and reel is a Okuma Ceymar C-30 FD Limited White Edition with 20lb braid with a 2ft 10lb fluro leader. We did blank but it beats shopping

| Looks a nice day out,if I have a go there I think I'll use a running ledger with plenty of bling (beads and a spoon.) The in and out of the tidal flow should flutter the bait quite a bit. A single bait would need flounders with eyes like a s/house rat. |

| I've got a rowing boat just like the one where Cole is fishing, but in a lot better nick,I bet a tootle round the harbour in it would be handy.I've got a 6hp that fits on it,or two seagulls.I need to modify the trailer for it before I can use it. Your tackle looks great, just right for the situation. |

Your tackle looks great, just right for the situation. How do you tether the seagulls to the boat? Do the ropes you use ruffle their feathers? Are they normal herring gulls or do you have to use black backed gulls to pull a boat with you and your tackle in it? How do you catch them or are they kept as pets? |

| I keep them as pets in the cage next to the mother in law's,they seem to cackle on well together. They thrive on petrol and two stroke oil. I keep them on the boat by telling them "That bogey man Headwin will get you and ruffle your feathers if you don't behave" They are British Seagull 2 stroke outboards. ,Renovated and tuned by my own hand. |

Your boat sounds ideal for the harbour and even the canal It's a very stable boat Steve,I've modified aluminium oars for it,it will turn round on a 5P piece, it's effortless to row.I've done a trip in it up and down the Weaver from Winsford a couple of times. I've got a 9ft inflatable with a stainless steel transom attachment,I've been up and down the canal from the Marina to Ashton, and from Whaley bridge to Marple. The trouble with the Ashton canal is it's full of polythene bags that get round the prop. I have stopped using it because it's awkward to get in and out of with my dodgey foot. I used the british seagulls on it (one at once of course) With the Seagulls being a cord start,it makes it etting up and starting them a bit of a task.I had a 3.3 evinrude on it,and that was a recoil start,a lot easier. If you ever want to borrow it,give me a shout. |

| Hi Steve, I'm getting too knackered to manouver in the inflatable, and I've decided to modify the rowing boat, although it's fibreglass it's a bit heavy out of the water,. I picked up a nice Johnson 25hp from Dolgellau on wednesday for the other boat,I need to raise the transom on the boat,(not a big Job) With my bad foot I will have a job launching it,my brother usually comes along, but he is not always available. When I'm satisfied with the boat's performance maybe you would fancy a day out in it,probably launch from Rhyl. To be honest with you,you would need to do most of the running around to launch it. It's not a heavy boat, and is easy to move on the trailer,If I was fit enough I could launch it by myself. It's got two comfortable seats and rod holder inserts. |
