We had a match in the Conwy estuary this afternoon, we spread out over most of the Conwy side, and I chose the mouth of the narrows towards the beacon. Unfortunately I seem to have chosen the nursery area where the baby ones learn to be flounders. I had six undersize, and four just big enough along with a little sea scorpion and to cap it all on the last cast I had a codling 2 cms too small.

Sounds a good session to me, wouldn't mind a sea scorpion or two this year. Didn't think you could get them in estuaries, live and learn!

Nice one SQ,I've often wondered if it's worth fishing the river when it's a bit rough at sea. I know it's a very healthy river fishwise higher up,do you think dropping a line in from a boat would be a good idea? Any idea what species are prevalant?

I know it's a very healthy river fishwise higher up,do you think dropping a line in from a boat would be a good idea? Any idea what species are prevalant? It`s probably the best estuary for boat fishing, but the tide really races through on the full flood or ebb. There are flounder there all year round , plus codling and whiting in the winter and eels and bass in the summer. I`ve seen the occasional good sized plaice and coalfish in the past and there are always mullet up and down the river, but a lot of time and heartache can be expended trying for those ! |

Thanks SQ,it's another venue I will give a try. We've launched a few times at the marina, but usually go round the Orme. The sandbanks on the way out toward the bibbing tunnels look like they would be a good place to fish. We had a look up the river one time, but never fished it. Looking forward to the new season.
