PostSubject: Rhoscolyn   Mon Mar 27, 2017 9:00 pm

Wanting to make the most of the decent weather we're having at the moment I planned my 1st kayak trip of the year today, rhoscolyn was the chosen venue, i was hoping I'd find plenty of shelter from the ne breeze that was forecast, I pulled up on the beach to find it summer like Very Happy

I got kitted up and headed out, I had a few drifts around the headland before heading towards the pepper pot islands, I picked up a small pollack on route before getting to the islands,

there was plenty of wildlife to keep me entertained on the way, the seals were enjoying the sun

I had a few more pollack on the drift but the fishing was tough

No monsters caught just enormous tiddlers Very Happy

The weather made up for the poor fishing but it was great to get out after a long winter

Great report, nice to see Rhoscolyn again.
If anyone is looking for bait, the beach is full of it.I've never seen so many Hermit crabs, and worms.
I've been promising myself a look at Silver bay next door to it,but the access seems to be private from the land.
i've got too old now,but I fancied putting in at Rhoscolyn and crossing silver bay then accessing the Inland sea up past Valley.
Me and my mate took an inflatable with an outboard to Rhoscolyn a few years ago, before we realised you needed insurance and registration, the attendant on the beach wouldn't let us launch.
We were camping on the Llyn at the time,so didn't fancy another 60 mile trip.

First of the year, but not first ever. Here are a few old ones.

You can walk down to silver bay via a field and woods(10min walk), let me know if you want proper directions. You can also get to the mouth of the inland sea in the car, you'd literally be able to unload the kayak and walk over a sand dune and you'll be at the mouth, it's behind valley air field.

Thanks Dan,I was 72 the other day and I have a bad foot that the doc is running me round in circles with,(18 months)it really does restrict what I can do.
Silver bay and the mouth of the inland sea has been on my "To do"list for a while now.
I have a 14ft semi open boat with a shallow draft (about 14")the prop is about 12" below the hull.Do you think if I launched at Rhosneigr I would get up the channel to the Inland sea?
There's a slipway at 4 mile bridge, but it says no motorised launching.I could probably uncouple the trailer at the top of the slip and roll it down to launch, but it would take 3 handy lads to control it down the slope.
My daughter is planning a week in Wales for her 50th in July, her and her Husband are walkers,so if you could give me the directions to Silver bay I could pass them on to her.
I'm sure she would love to see it.

I'll pm you with directions later on tonight. You won't get up there at low water, it nearly dries up where it hits the beach, you'd be fine mid tide upwards. It's quiet narrow at the entrance, it'd be worth a look at low water to give you an idea of the layout because there's rocks either side of the entrance, perfectly do-able though, I've seen plenty of boats in there

That's great Dan thanks.I'll have a look at the entrance at low water to check where the rocks are.Probably launch at Rhosneigr and have a careful look.
I was talking to two old guys fishing off the bridge at Fourmile, they were catching blennis on the Holyhead side, and putting them live under a float on the other side for Bass. They had a couple each.
I believe there is a 70ft hole somewhere in the inland sea,but I don't know which side of the bridge.
Some guys were Kayaking under the bridge, have you had a go?
