| Even though I was the first one there at 5am and grabbed the right hand corner, the best spot. I only had one bite for 4 hours, but then no one else was doing any good. I can stand tangles if there are a few fish around, but this was daft. I think the water was too clean and needed a stir up from a big blow. |

| Plenty of scent out there should of been bringing the sharks in close I would of thought. |

| That's a thought, maybe a bit of rubby dubby would get the fish interested. Next season I'm taking an onion sack with mackerel bits in it,and hanging it off the boat with a rock in it.From an anchored boat you couldn't get a better scent trail. Nearly all fish are predators,so It's worth a try. |

I don't know if you go on The totally Awesome fishing show Logger,it's well worth a coat of looking at. I got the idea from one of his Utube vids. He always uses a rubby dubby sack,no matter what he is fishing for. Him and his son do boat, shore and freshwater fishing vids. |

| Yeees, a few problems with putting out berley as we call it, 200 yards away is a very popular swimming and surfing beach, so attracting sharks would not go down well, especialy as a swimmer was killed by sharks 150 yards off the front of the rock a few years ago. It is thought a bronze whaler shark started the attack but was soon joined by a great white shark, the surf life savers got most of him back after shooting the bronzie from a helicopter. There is also a seal colony on the island and seals are commonly seen around the rock, they are an attractant for sharks without us getting in on the act. Anyway we try to keep away from sharks as much as possible. I do use berley when boat fishing when needed, I have an industrial mincer with petrol motor, and keep the minced fish in plastic milk bottles with the top cut off. Some tie it to the anchor chain, but I put it down on a cord with 30 oz of lead, great for tangles with a stroppy fish and easy to see it bouncing along the surface if you forget it when you take off. |

| I always think it's a shame when a shark is shot because it's doing what comes naturally to it Apart from if they thought the swimmer was still alive of course Or if it was me |

| I lived in Whyalla in south Australia in the early 60's and worked as an apprentice in the shipyard. Over at the fitting out wharf (after the ship was launched to be fitted out) We used to see some big great whites cruising round the hull and prop,a great sight, but bloody scary. We used to snorkel with a fork made of welding rods for the cuttlefish some lunchtimes,a sort of contest. If someone shouted "Shark"we got out of the water like MTB's on full revs. Port Lincoln was only 70 miles up the coast where the Tuna boats fish from. If I had been a couple of years older I would have stayed and not left for Melbourne with my family. |

| Bronze whalers are not agressive, feeding on fish mostly, but in murky water they have been known to bite surfers and divers flippers probably by mistake. The swimmer may have had a cut or scrape that the shark homed in on. the initial attack was not seen. It was noticeable that the numbers of surfers dropped for a while. Yesterday another 2 men drowned when their inflateable boat capsized at a river mouth on the west coast of the N island. conditions were stroppy with a 2m swell and strong on shore wind. |

No wonder you only have a small population it's either getting eaten or drowning. |
