With the quest for work continuing and some lovely summer sunshine, I thought it would be rude not to wet a line or two !!
First stop my old haunt Llandudno Pier, hoping for a bumper smoothound session that I had this time last august. Was very slow going, just a half dozen summer codling ranging from 1/2 to 3/4 lb and a few mini species until I had a very good take on crab. I was convinced it was a smoothound but on finally breaching the surface it was my first ever Thorny off the pier and a nice one too at 6lb 1oz.
The weekend then saw me heading to Holyhead Breakwater to show Greg the long walk
We fished the inside at the end which was very snaggy with the beds of kelp but produced 3 types of wrasse and a couple of new species for both Myself and Greg. I had gone there trying to catch my first ever shore conger and hoping for 3 bearded rockling and Cuckoo wrasse. I had made up 2 wire traces for the congers and after losing them both to snags I stuck a pulley pennel on and then hooked a conger ! It won't break any records but my first ever shore conger at 12oz
The wrasse were hammering the LRF gear on bits of rag but I also had a double header of wrasse on main rod on crab bait, 1 ballan and my first ever cuckoo wrasse
It was a glorious day out and a worthwhile venue even if it is a long walk ! The 3 bearded made a no show but 2 out of 3 target species ain't bad Some more photos below even one of a 'Rare' Blue Lobster for Greg !
