Cornwall Empty
PostSubject: Cornwall   Cornwall EmptyWed Aug 03, 2016 9:51 pm

I was down in Cornwall last week on holiday so I thought it would of been rude not to of taken a rod or 2 with me Rolling Eyes  I managed to get 3 short sessions in. The 1st was down the lizard peninsula, church cove area, it was a bit of climb to get to,but once there, there was a nice flat rock to fish off at the bottom, the water clarity down there was unreal, it was like being abroad, the spot I fished had rough ground close in, which gave way to sand further out. I fished 2 rods, 1 close in and 1 cast out onto the sand. I only had 1 fish casting out and that was a small plaice.

The rod close in had most of the action, a double header of pollack got me off the mark.

I then had some small ballans and shannies before a better a bite and a cracking fight off this lovely ballan

Session 2 was the local beach down the road from where were staying, after tea in the local pub I set the Mrs up with a book and a chair and got to work Razz  unfortunately though the weed was a nightmare and no fish hit the beach.

Session 3 was on the rocks below the open air theatre(minack)

apparently it's the work of a lady some years ago, that's some lady! The Mrs went to watch a play there so that meant some fishing time, I didn't fancy it of course lol!

Porth currno beach was on the way down to the rocks, it's some beach, they don't make them like that in Wales, The pic doesn't do it justice.

The fishing wasn't great here, I had a few macky, and a small pollack

The scenery made up for the lack of fish

Nice one,Porthcurno is the best beach I have ever been to,there are millions of sand eels as you enter the water.I had a mate called Charles who was a lifeguard there in the 70's.He fished off the rocks while he was keeping an eye on things. At the night he would build a fire and crack a bottle of wine and light the scented candles, and bbq the fish he caught during the day. There was always a crowd at the party.
I camped at Kennack sands for a fortnight on the lizard 4 yrs ago, some nice bass fishing the beach.
Great place cornwall,I've just booked a cottage about a mile from Porthcurno for September next year.
The fishing at Pendeen lighthouse is pretty good. The beauty of the Lands end peninsular is,if a mist rolls in from the atlantic you can go to the other side of the peninsular, and vice versa. The mist overshoots the land by about a mile on the opposite side from where it is coming in.

It was,he wanted me to get a job as a lifeguard with him, there at Porthcurno,I'd done a bit of diving and surfing,so I would have walked it.
Her indoors didn't like the idea though, too much bounce

The sand at Porthcurno is white,it's actually all ground up sea shells.
The main communications cables from America are buried under the sand at Porthcurno, that was the first place they used when they laid the cables. The first trans atlantic message came in there.
Two miles across the peninsular at Sennen cove is a favorite place for watching basking sharks.
When there has been storms in the caribean a week earlier, and there's a full moon and an offshore breeze, the surfing is great at Sennen.
