It was a very early start for the 7th fixture in the Wirral Sea Fishing summer league at Harrison Drive on Sunday. Flat calm at home in Runcorn I was quite shocked at the strength of the wind when I got to New Brighton !
Armed with some lovely fresh peeler, a bit of lug and some not so fresh ragworm I attempted to cast head on into the wind. I had my conti Viper rod with me so spotting bites in that wind was going to be difficult and I was also finding the weed a bit of a problem.
After about an hour, I did however spot a bite and a 38cm chunk of a flounder was landed weighing in at 1lb 6oz.
Plaice were the bonus species and I did manage to find a couple, a 33cm & 32cm beautifully coloured pair.
The fishing was very slow down our end of the beach and not long before the end I bagged a 30cm, 13oz plump dab
It was tough going, but an enjoyable morning to be out with friends
Happy with 4th place and bagging the longest fish
