changed over to braid.

I have changed most of my reels over to 30lb Braid,I find the non stretch is great for bite detection.
I use the end tackle that suits the type of fishing at the time.eg, conger I would use a wire trace.
Flattie rigs flourocarbon clear.
I find casting with a multiplier can get tricky with braid,but bouncing it with the tide off the back of the boat
is much better.
For uptiding with a fixed spool braid is second to none,less tide drag etc.
I use braid for pike fishing and carp etc,(still 30lb) still fluro end tackle.
The rest of my reels I use 6lb fluro,(canals etc)and adjust the dia of the hooklength to suit.
It seems to be working for me ok.
I use 25lb fluro on my shimano lever drag reel,just in case I get lucky.
Anybody tried a similar aproach ?

I found that after I used braid on the boat it would start biting into itself on the reel (if that makes sense) and then casting became a pain so I gave up on it for a while but as you say it cuts through the current so well that I'm back on it now especially if I'm fishing the Mersey

And mono on my course reel I only use flourocarbon
On Cole pole rigs or if I'm drop shot fishing

The dynema braid from China doesn't bite into itself,
The stuff we buy here can be a bit "waxy and Wooly"and I think that's how the line compresses together
under strain.
I had the same problem,but the dynema braid stays seperate.

I can see your point Steve,flouro can be a bit hard to tie.Easy enough on sea rigs though.

I use flouro tied to a swivel for running ledgers,with the ledger weight on the reel side of the swivel.

The change from flouro to braid makes the end tackle more or less invisible.

I got a couple of packs of lead dropshots,I've only had a couple of half hour sessions on the Marina with one of my telescopics,no luck though.
Perch do come out of the marina,but I think they are dominated by the pike.
I've had a few species out of the marina,but Perch don't seem as prolific as in other places.
The marina is starting to fill up with semi-resident barges,so things might change.

I know the guy(whose name is Guy) who has the dry dock in Ashton,he has the rights to Droylsden marina,
upto last year he charged £10 for a licence to fish it,there are signs round the marina with his tel number on to apply for a licence.
I got one last year,but I don't know if he still does them.I haven't bothered this year.He let me fish his canal spur in Ashton last year,but he said keep away from the ropes on the barges,in case you snap a hook off in them.
The marina was handy for me,I'd nip in Tesco and then go over for a short session with my ready set up telescopic out of the boot.
Like I said,I've found a very comfortable spot that's teeming.I've perused it quite a few times,but not fished it yet.
Plenty of big rollers and rises and large bubbles.The guys that work close by said when there has been no barges and the water is clear,they have seen some big fish in it.
Nice and safe parking,and only 10 yds to the canal.(very handywith my wobbly legs)

You are probably winding it on to the reel a bit to loosely Logger you need to put braid on quite tight due to it being thin. I read in one of the mags that you should soak it in water first but I have never tried it. The thing with braid is with it being so thin and no stretch it is very easy to cut your fore finger when casting or even handling it, if you use it a lot it is well worth getting a finger stall. Casting a 6oz weight with braid you could soon loose the tip of your finger. The other thing with braid that I have found and I use it all the time when spinning is that you can get wind knots very easily which are a pain to undo and can waste a lot of fishing time.

Another point,it's a good idea to have a mono or flourocarbon leader,that last bit when you are hauling fish in
can be lethal if you are handling braid.
And avoid getting your hand trapped on the side of the boat by the line,braid will cut deep.
