Terry, Dan and I took advantage of a calm couple of days to fit in a species hunting session on the Breakwater last night.
The main target species were 3 Bearded and Shore Rockling, but I was hoping to rack up a few more as I was only on 2 for the year!
Although the wind was light, there was persistant rain forecast so we were happy that it wasn’t raining when we got to our spot.
We all set up and things were quiet for the first half hour of our session with a Dog each for me and Dan.
As the tide flooded and the depth increased in front of us, the fish came on the feed. Terry had a 3 beard of just over 1lb, then a Pollack in quick succession and it wasn’t long until we were all catching.
There were lots of fish, although Shore Rockling made up the bulk of the catches but the forecast rain made an appearance and we all got a big soggy as it got heavier.
Terry was doing ok for the Pollack and his biggest went to about 1lb 8oz. Dan and I had both caught Pollack and 3 Beards now, with my first 3 Beard the best of the night at 1lb 6oz.
Dan had another Dog but we couldn’t get past the Shore Rockling or Pollack to pick up a Pouting or Poor Cod.
I also had a rod out for Conger but that remained quiet.
Due to the rain, we decided to cut the session a little short, and packed in about an hour after high. We were still catching fish, and I had my third 3 Beard on my last cast.
Final scores were, 7 or 8 Pollack, the same number of Shore Rockling and 1 3 Beard to Terry. 2 Dogs, 2 3 Beards and several each of Shore Rockling and Pollack to Dan, and a Dog, 3 3 Beards, a couple of Pollack and at least half a dozen Shore Rockling for me. We had lost a couple of rigs each and plenty of leads but thats to be expected for those brave enough to fish the outside of the breakwater. We all got what we came for so Happy Days!
Heres the other shots i took before is started persisting down!
