WD 40 Empty
PostSubject: WD 40   WD 40 EmptyThu Jun 25, 2015 8:49 pm

Read this week about some of the uses for WD40 apart from getting rid of squeaks in ya engine. Apparently it can also be used to spray on fish baits as an attractment?? (Main ingredient being fish oil..!)
Just wondering if anyone has tried it?? Question

Did try it off a harbour wall once, didn't catch anything but I did feel guilty when a slick came to the surface!

Tried cod liver oil once too, it gets everywhere! However a better bet might be to get a hypodermic and inject it into a bait.

I use it for spraying on me reals to get rid of the salt water but never tried it on bait.

I carry some WD40 in my box and fish oil or fish scent and I have used all of them from time to time usally when having one of those blank days when you get to trying anything, but nothing seems to make any difference or more to the point I have't really noticed any difference. The theory being that the more scent you put in the water the more fish will come and have a look but the trick must be to find a scent that the fish are going to like enough to want to come and have a look and then eat it. If it was me it would be Steak and Chips it would catch me every time.Very Happy:http://www.smi

I remember in the mid 90s it was used by a top pike angler who used to spray it on their deadbaits and saw some results on catchrates however they then said it was maybe not a good idea as it is not to be injested by humans and there was a concern about it being bad for the fish so stopped using it. not heard much recently about its use though.

When WD 40 was devised fish oil was used as part of the mix.
Back then it was a good fish attractant not any more (Cod liver oil is much better)
Also Abu told me not to use it as its too abrasive for well engineered reels

WD40 has many good uses but

But Don't Spray It On:

1. Door hinges. Sure, WD-40 will stop the squeaking, but it also attracts dust and dirt. Over time, you'll end up with ugly black streaks on your hinges.

2. Bike chains. WD-40 can cause dirt and dust to stick to a chain. Use bike-specific lubricants, which typically contain Teflon.

3. Paintball guns. WD-40 can melt the seals in the guns.

4. Locks. The spray can prematurely wear down the internal mechanisms, especially in the pin tumbler locks, in door locks and padlocks. Go for graphite powder.

5. iPods and iPads. WD-40 won't repair the Home button on these devices. In fact, the spray can cause the plastic to break down on the cover, and if some gets inside the electronics, it can damage plastic parts inside.

Hope this is of some use santa

WD40 good stuff: ive sprayed it on:

1: door hinges - i now have black streaks down my door...

2: bicycle chain - everything stuck to it and jammed the gearing...

3: my gun - not a paintball gun, but it kept my rifle firing sweetly during contacts in afghan. I would invite to ask my targets to vouch for its affectiveness however they can no longer answer you...

4: locks - having just moved house, ive wd40'd every padlock and door lock car ignition and bike ignition! So give it a few months and any housebreaker will be able to pop my locks with ease (sounds almost sexual, ooh err missus!!)

5: ipod/i phone - well its not very compatible, i dropped my phone with wd40 slippery hands after oiling up my reels yet now im worried that im going to cause premature damage to my babies!

still, at least it smells nice...
