Working around mid-Wales last week I'd hoped to fish Llanrhystud or Aberaeron for the first time but time and tide waits for no man and it was Abersytwyth stone breakwater or nothing as the tide was already dropping away.
I opted for the upper level ( no safety rail!) which is a great boat spotting point.
some huge jellies were going out on the ebb
With no bait I was relying on flicking a shrimp rig out with a bass rod, the spinning reel was loaded with braid and with the height I was casting from and a stiff breeze over my right shoulder I was emptying the spool.
There was nothing to indicate that Mackeral were about and no takers. As the tide dropped further I tried dangling the unbaited rig down the inner wall in the hope of a mini species but to no avail.
Across the harbour someone was crabbing on the wooden jetty probably with more luck than me!
As the water fell away quickly the platform at the foot of the breakwater was uncovered and a fellah was float fishing for Garfish without success, it had only been an hour but now I was aware of signs of carpal tunnel problems ahead and left him to it
Heading down the coast I took a look at Aberaeron harbour before supper
Had a good luck for Mullet in the inner harbour, there is a deeper channel by the wall on the left where the Aeron river finds it's way seaward but none spotted.
What with the driving and all I now have an ice pack strapped to my casting wrist so not sure when I'll be out again now!
