The bridge opens 'Gull-like' from the centre stanchion. A call on your VHF radio to the CCTV operators will have it open for you. From closed to open takes 2 minutes. |

| Anyone commuting by bike would probably prefer a route adjacent to the blue bridge.
If a "pleasure route" pedestrian and cycle way across the harbour to Horton's nose is considered so vital why not just have a good old fashioned ferryman, it wouldn't need much of a boat, low carbon footprint, minimal cost, could be up and running pretty quickly, no slower than waiting for the bridge to open/close, provides employment, wouldn't block navigation and it could tie in with the terminus of the land train.
It would be kinda quaint too -which would be good for tourism.
If it turned out there was no demand for a ferry it would show there's no need for a white elephant crossing either |
