| Venue - Prestatyn Duration - 12 hrs Bait: Fresh Lug, Fresh Mackerel, Fresh Shrimp, Peeler Crab Boat - Clueless too Date - 25th July 2009
Todays plan was to start of in search of a Bass or 2, followed by some Smoothound action and finally, if conditions allowed, heading out for a Tope.
Lots of familiar faces about today. The Maestro was out with Roger.
Del The Tope joined Ken on Fisherboy.
We headed out and anchored up.
The first mark of the day greeted us with instant success. Not the target fish, but some stonking Flounder and pan sized Dabs made for a great start.
Severel Bass were landed but they were only slightly bigger than Notbad's Pet Bass. Duly returned, we headed off in search of a few Smoothound.
Fresh Crab and Shrimp were dropped down for the Smoothound and Fresh Lug flicked out for the chance of a Bass.
The lug was first to recieve a run. Todays first Smoothound was the result.
Lots more followed.
Both Common and Starry. The Lug actually outfished the Shrimp and Crab.
For a final bit of variety, we headed out looking for Tope.
We struggled feathering for Mackerel. When we eventually managed a couple to drop down, we were rewarded quickly.
Severel runs that led to nothing were followed by another good run for me. This again went quiet. I reeled in to inspect my bait. Catching sight first of my 8oz lead followed by my Mackerel and followed by a Tope! The fish wasn't hooked. It had obviously followed the bait up and in clear calm water i had a great view of it actually taking the bait and heading off. Unfortunately for me, he spat it shortly after. What an amazing sight!!!!
Meanwhile, Mark was now into a fish.
This one behaved and was brought to the boat and duly landed.
Not weighed but it looks very similar to Sinbads 36lb specimen a few years back.
Elsewhere, Del and Ken on Fisherboy had been having fun.....
Tales of lost Bass and Dolphins in their bow-wave crackled across channel 77.
Ken managed to get this photo of a nice Tope just before it escaped into the deep before being boated.
Luckily for Del, there were more where that came from.
Slight drama whilst Del and Ken were waiting to be retrieved. A wheel had fallen off a trailer on the slipway. All sorted out safely in the end though.
Great fun allround!!!!! Many thanks to Mark for offering me another fantastic trip out on Clueless too. Happy Days!!!! |
