Venue information

Drigg Scar lies four miles south of the Sellafield nuclear plant and offers fishing on to a mix of rough ground and sand.
The scar can be accessed two – two and a half hours either side of low water depending on the size of the tide and conditions.
The front is generally rough ground with the northern side offering clean ground. The fishing is best during dark hours in a south westerly wind.
Care should be taken to time your exit from the scar, as the tide floods round the back and can’t be seen from most of the fishing points.

SPECIES
Summer produces bass, dogfish, conger and silver eels. Winter months produce codling, whiting, pouting and rockling.

BAIT AND TACKLE
Crab and worm baits will take their share of bass, as will spinning a popper plug in calm conditions. Dogfish and conger will take mackerel and sandeel baits.
The start of winter will see peeler crab the top bait for cod, with worm taking over as winter progresses.
A standard beachcaster rod and reel loaded with 20lb – 25lb should be fine. Terminal tackle will depend on what type of ground you are fishing.
For clean ground use a two hook flapper with a 5oz – 6oz breakout lead.
Use a pulley rig in the rougher ground.

p.s. if the fish are florescent or have more than two eyes then they are not keepers

Thanks Ian cheers

I'm fishing (or trying to in the wind) low water up.
There's just time to bait up cast in write this then it's time to move back 40 or 50 ft it's flooding in so fast.

Just moved back again leaving the bait in the water, I'll reel in and change it next move which won't be long.

Looks like a great spot to fish with rocks gullys and clean sand in between.

Starting to go dark so I'll have one more cast then I'll get off as there's gullys behind me and Im not familiar with the place.

Time to move again.

Keep up the good work. I'm sat at home in the warm with a beer and a bag of chips, whilst you are risking life and limb to rising tide in the quest for an unusual fish for your species hunt.

Pics at last

The view towards Sellafield

Plenty of worm about

Lots of gullys and dips too.
The rocks in front are the Scar and actually form quite a hill.

View from the far side of the Scar looking back up the beach towards Scafell Pike.

You get some good sunsets here with the Isle of Man in the distance.

No fish but nice views Cool
