So since I managed to break my rod I now have the opportunity to buy a new 1,which I have been considering for a while. Question is what make or model do I go for. Do any of you chaps have words of wisdom on rods apart from the obvious, 'don't brake your rod'? study

Love my Century Tip Tornado Supermatch LD with Kwag rings for Fixed Spool, great over clean ground, not one for winching up a pier and I've not tried standing on it!

Yeah it has really, in fact the low diameter probably helps because there is less side for the wind to push against, casting weight wise 5 oz is about the heaviest, a heavy sea might be more an issue because of this.

What's your budget pal

These are not bad for the price around £69.99 (ebay)
Shakespeare Agility FS Surf 4-8oz Rod 12.9 Ft

Then you've got the NEW Sonik SK3 TXR Surf Beach 13ft Fishing Rod - 4-6oz - SK3XTRSR3 for around £129.99 (ebay)
these rods have had some good reviews

and this I really like probably my next rod Anyfish Anywhere Tournament Match Mark 2
these are around £300 affraid  affraid or the anyfish anywhere international mk1 15ft

I have an older one, 16 feet long opens up possibilities for longer rigs but I got one for the casting leverage, it does chuck well with an overhead thump and can cast up to 8 ounces.

Three pieces ( otherwise you wouldn't get it in the car) and surprisingly light to carry.

It's a good rod but not as good as the Century in most situations but being so long means you can get the line up out of the surf which is handy on a long surf or if there is a lot of weed about.

Very Pricey the Century butI feel I got the quality I paid for and the first Bass landed on it was a 7lb 2 oz which eased my buyers guilt.
Of course if you get a good rod you need to get a good reel too!

On the down side the Long Beam being 3 foot longer than typical rods you have to stand well back to watch it or you'll get a very stiff  neck!

So think I have mulled over all the possibilites of rods and come to the conclusion of buying the anyfish anywhere MKII 6+bait, 14' fixed spool. Order being placed this week so hopefully a sneaky session in before holiday in 3 weeks. If not will keep in warm for the summer meet. Smile

Just need to pick a reel now scratch
