Tally Ho!

Too windy for the boat yesterday but determined to start my Species Hunt score I joined Mehmet for Low out on the banks last night.

It was still pretty windy but coming from over our shoulders it wasn't too bad.

The first of two whiting got my hunt started at last!

With a large and full moon rising the flood was a fast one and a reminder that even a foot of water in a fast filling gulley could take you off your feet.
A couple of times I opened the bale arm and walked back paying out 250 yards of line, it wasn't across sand for long as the water raced in.

As darkness fell so did the wind and a little rain fell too but hopes were high for a bass.
It wasn't to be but I was chuffed to be out and to have started the hunt at last.

Mehmet is not in the hunt but he should be, his tally for the evening was a Plaice, a Dab, a Flounder, a couple of Whiting and an Eel!

Mind you he was using two rods - that's my excuse for getting whupped anyway!

Well done Paul, good pics.
I remember fishing with Mike once and the gullies filling very quick, easy to get caught out.

Yeah and on a bigger tide we'd be a bank further out still.
Some of the gullies fill from two directions

It's a scarey place on a misty night and wet sand looks like water; no doubt Rhyl Life Boat crew, Lifeguards and Coastguard will be called into action many times over the Summer as holidaymakers get caught out. Rhyl is the busiest RNLI station in Wales I believe.

I carry a throw line in my tackle box just in case.
