PostSubject: The Stell   Sat Apr 25, 2015 12:55 am

The Stell is a small village on the estuary of the river Dee just outside Kirkcudbright South West Scotland.

Its the first spot I went to last week before the rain came and washed me away but with this weeks sunshine I thought i'd give it another go fishing

On these trips away I limit myself to only taking two packs of frozen Lug partly due to freezer room,as i'm in a caravan all week (sharing the with the boss) and also because if I took any more i'd be there night after night and wouldn't get any work done Embarassed

I had two sessions this week fishing the ebb two hours before low, the first on Wednesday's tide.

First cast nothing but the crabs had a nice feed Crying or Very sad
Second cast the rod tip twitched almost immediately even though the bait could hardly have been on the bottom a second or two then for a few more seconds nothing so I decided It was just the 6oz gripper finding its hold in the current of the ebbing tide but within another ten seconds the twitches began again only more violent this time only to stop once more Rolling Eyes

More crabs I thought....

The taps very soon started again and the rod tip pulled and bent more and more into the rest and against the current.....
Fish or an army of hungry crabs Question

As the line pulled I did my best to resist reeling in as Flounder was my target in the muddy estuary and I didn't want to pull the bait away from a possible fish before it sucked up the hook Exclamation

The line continued to pull before becoming perfectly still.... Then a classic slack line that you might expect from a Cod at which point I thought "Dam I've missed it !"
With nothing to lose now I reeled in feeling nothing but the lead weight on the end.... until the line started to take off down stream rather quicker than I would have expected and with a little added weight too Exclamation

Could it be Question Question

It was cheers

A nice plump Flounder  Very Happy

Unfortunately it was the only fish of the session as the crabs moved in on every cast i made after that and devoured every bait I put in before the fish had a chance  Crying or Very sad

I went again on Thursday to roughly the same spot, 200 yrds up stream only to feed the crabs then 200 down stream to feed some more  Rolling Eyes

Oh well nothing ventured cheers

Its a nice easy venue and a short cast puts you straight into the channel plus its only a short distance from the car which is just enough after a 12hr shift Very Happy

bye
