Building A Boat In The Lounge Update 21. - it's time for some action man!
Here's where this project had got to last time
https://sunnyrhyl.forumotion.com/t6879-building-a-boat-in-the-lounge-update-20-a-trailer-for-the-main-featureNotbad had set himself a target to finish the trailer over Easter but progress was slow
What with munching Easter eggs and a barbecue he just wasn't hacking it.
Time for action man!
so I stepped in to the breach to get the project moving at the double
Mmmm! so that's why he was sawing up my favourite weapon!!
With no written plans to work to it's not gone without a hitch but with a bit of trial and error the geometry came more or less right.
Rolling about under his sofa I found various bits of Lego and stuff and requisitioned 'em for parts
The first set of main wheels I tried where from an Arduino robot and theoretically to the right scale but somehow they didn't look beefy enough so I switched them for a pair off my jeep, trouble is they are a bit wide for the mudguards
Here and there Notbad has fudged the 1/6 scale. Those dome nuts are a bit oversized if you ask me
A bit too late in the day I discovered scale nuts and bolts for building working model steam engines and assorted lap top screw packs on EBay but I can't spend big money,
so instead I raided his man tin of "bits that will come in handy one day" for camera and spectacle screws and borrowed the terminal bolts from his electrical fittings to secure the mud guards to their frame.
I made the mud guards from copper strip bent around a roll of tape and the edges curled over bit by bit with pliers, a bit of finishing is needed yet
The axle is deliberately further back than on the real one because one of the outstanding jobs on Notbad 1 is moving the axle back to improve the balance
With most of the other bits and fittings lined up ready hopes of fully finishing this project by the new extended deadline of Spring 2016 are not yet extinguished!
Small things make for perfection and there's more work to do but I'm happy enough with the result so far. I could keep on improving it ( I'd like to add nuts to the wheel hubs ) but that's the trailer near enough sorted for now.
I hope Notbad appreciates my help,
Now the Sunny Rhyl Species Hunt has started finding spare time for getting on with finishing the hull is going to have to compete with the fishing action man!
Right anyone fancy a Barbie?
