If it help the Bass stocks then I for one am all for it. In all the years I have been fishing I have only had one Bass for the table.

Quite agree on the size increase and the trawling ban can only be a good thing but let's hope there is action on the greedy netters too

I'm all in for anything that helps Bass.
I would just like to put this to you all though.
It's ok having a minimum size limit like we do.
You catch a Bass for e.g. measuring 40cm, it's legal, so in the pot it goes.
That Bass has maybe bred once or twice, and to put it bluntly it's dead.
Now, over in the States, they've introduced a maximum size limit a few years back.
Anything over 40cm must go back unharmed by law.
Now that Bass may breed 10, 15 or 20 times in its lifetime. The Bass in America(both large and smallmouth), have trebled in numbers since the law was introduced.

Just to broaden the subject a bit - should ALL netting for bass be banned during spawning? Perhaps rod and line should also be catch = release only during that period??

That's one good thing with Cornwall.
From Easter to Christmas we are  overrun with Bass, although not a bad thing.
They are just arriving now.
We've had the mackerel arriving in Charlestown a fortnight ago chasing the sandeel in, with a few smaller Bass(2-4lb) behind them.
Saying that, I've yet to catch one this year.
Going to fish St Ives in a fortnight for 2 days, so fingers crossed.

Yeah, it's definitely made a big difference over there.

The most bass I've had in one session is fourteen at dinas but that night only one was 36 cm to take for the pot ..the most sizes able ones! I've had in one session is three over 40 cm at pensarn ,two I had for the pot and put the third back , I only put that one back because I was camping in my car for the weekend and it would have gone off , our that one would have gone it the pot too . Costs me a lot of money go sea fishing , so don't feel bad enjoying my fruits of my work .. Would gladly stick to a fish bag limit if this becomes law , but only if they restrict netters too , might sound selfish of me but , why should I put back a fish that's bloody good eating to be trapped in a gill net another tide later .. Ps told my self if I catch bass over five pounds they would always go back , but never caught one this size lol .

the netters are the problem not the rod and line lads they get more in a tide than most of us get all year and a lot of ours go back there's are all dead by the time they empty the nets

Most Bass when large are not as nice to eat as the smaller ones So that's a good idea anything over 12lbs released

I would like to meet these people who catch all these Bass in the last 10years or so I have caught about 5 and all went back except one, so I don't think I am make an inroads into Bass stocks. Having said that I do agree with what is happening as someone is taking far to many and that has to be stopped. Bring the Uboat back ! They would sort things out.

Just for interest, from the comments made on this issue, it does not sound as though much has changed over the last 40 years, I was happy catching 2 or 3 bass on a good day around Bangor, with my best one around 5 lb. These were long days as I stayed there either in the youth hostel or camped in the car.
