A Day of Firsts Empty
PostSubject: A Day of Firsts    A Day of Firsts EmptySun Nov 16, 2014 10:53 am

It was an early start for the Mersey trip yesterday but well worth it Very Happy
Joining me was Joker,

A Day of Firsts Mersey10

Ade

A Day of Firsts Mersey11

And Mr lunt who insisted on having his photo taken at every opportunity Cool

A Day of Firsts Mersey12

We sailed from Coburg Wharf Liverpool at 05.30 aboard Suveran 11 expertly skippered by Simon Parry

A Day of Firsts Mersey13

It was a day of firsts, a Conger for Dave, A boat caught Thornback Ray for Joe and my very first Thornback ever cheers

The biggest fish of the day was a 10lb 5oz Thornback caught by the only lady on board Kate

A Day of Firsts Mersey19

(Joe was really pleased for her  Shocked )

She also went on to catch several nice Codling too  Very Happy

A Day of Firsts Mersey22

I had two Rays the first being about 6lb and the 2nd was weighed at 7lb 8oz  Very Happy

A Day of Firsts Mersey20
A Day of Firsts Mersey21

Crab activity was quite bad at times with some monsters attacking the baits Exclamation

A Day of Firsts Mersey23

By the end of play the boat had caught one Conger, 12 rays and 17 Codling and lots of Whiting, Dabs and Dog fish too Very Happy

If anybody wants a boat trip but suffers sea sickness then the Mersey is the ideal place to go as you are on the river and the only real waves you get is when a larger boat passes Exclamation

A Day of Firsts Mersey24

We used huge baits which were sometimes bigger than the fish  Laughing

Forgot to say that the Conger Dave caught weighed 8lb and when held up by the snood for a photo it dropped off, it turned out it wasn't hooked at all but it had swallowed a Whiting which had taken the bait before becoming bait itself !

A great report Dave, we used to get thornbacks out from Rhyl in the summer, when a few mackerel had been caught use half a fillet on 15 KG gear. I cannot remember ever catching tope or huss though. Looked like a great days fishing
