| Late November. A young friend of mine suggested a trip to Pakiri on the east coast North of here. A bit of a mission, half an hours drive to meet up, an hour to the beach and a hard yomp of nearly an hour along the beach and over the boulders and around the rocks----- An interesting spot for a night fish, at high tide only a couple of feet of freeboard and a 1ft swell means wet feet and hope the waves don't get bigger. Painfully slow, only the odd small fish until 10-45, then a small pull, bugger! stuck in the weed, tighten up and walk backwards, yeay a lump of weed came away, I thought! There was a bit of sea lettuce, and a 1 KG crayfish hooked in a leg joint It spent a week in my marine fish tank, then went to a BBQ with us, sadly? it did not survive the trip. I have only caught one other, it was a bit undersize, but still tasty |
