Hi Wetlegs, for every gallon of petrol you need to put 1/6th of a pint of oil this is because a 2 stroke engine does not have an oil sump like a 4 stroke engine (the one you have in your car) and therefore without you adding oil to the petrol the engine would have no lubrication and very soon grind to a halt. Ordinary engine oil will do fine. You need to find a container that holds 1/6th of a pint something that you can mark of down the side in 1/6, 1/12, 1/18 and so on. 1/6th of a pint is about 3 fl oz. if you put to much oil apart from getting a very smokey engine you will not burn all the oil of and the plug will soot up and even worse oil up and stop working.
I hope this will be of some help.

On the side of the 2 stroke oil bottle there should be marks which is the guide as to how much you put in  Cool
In my experience its better to have to much oil than not enough although you may smoke your self out if not careful  Laughing

Start with a known quantity of fuel from the forecourt pump, choose an amount that is going to make the maths easy!
