Talacre Saint Davids Day 14.30 - 18.00hrs

Baits: Sticky old Lug, Squid, Mackerel, Cockles.

Weather: Beautiful

Tide: Enormous

Wind: Zilch

We left the car by the Smugglers Inn and made our way across the semi flooded beach car park to the post which marked the beginning of our trek.

For some reason the 2nd buoy mark looked further away than I remembered it to be
Hari decided to play some music on his phone to help us on our way and quite by chance the first song was...... The Proclaimers

So off we set.

Upon reaching the mark we dropped all our gear, which i had meticulously gone through weeding out all the non necessary items to lighten the load and then putting twice as much back in, when we spotted Clint Eastwood walking across the sands towards us but after a few minutes it turned out to be Hot Shot Alan

After a quick chat Alan decided that the 500 miles we had just walked wasn't quite far enough for his liking so we moved another 100mtrs further along
Hari and I set up the rods and made our first casts of 2014

Alan certainly knows his stuff and had put us just into the right spot as it wasn't long before we were all catching.
The tide was very strong so we adopted the same tactic as we use on the boats when fishing in the Mersey which was to rip off a load of line as soon as the weight hit the water in order to give the 6oz gripper a chance of holding the bottom.

Hot Shot caught the first fish, a pin Whiting then a Dab then a Codling.

Then it was Hari's turn as he reeled in his first catch of the year.

I had to wait until my third cast before my luck was in but after that they just kept coming. Love Talacre

After an hour the strong pull of the tide dropped right off which was a mixed blessing as it ment less weed which was becoming a bit of a pain but the bites also became less aggressive and were more of a nibble so once a bite was spotted it was sit on your hands time for a couple of minutes and then reel in
All fish were returned to the water even though a few (Dab) were keepers with quite a bit of meat on them, most were stuffed full of eggs too.

The last hour of our session was fairly quiet with hardly a bite to mention but it was 6pm and the flood had begun, I think the fish would have switched back on to feed but it was starting to get dark and it was time to get off.

A great few hours and a good start to my 2014 season.

great report and pics dave and we never had any rain till we got back to the cars so we timed it just right.
we will have to do it again but not to soon my legs will need a bit of time to recover lol!

Got match there next Sunday morning, hope the conditions are as good then, otherwise its a hard slog against the wind/sand but seems worth the effort for the catch. Very Happy

Great report & pictures Logger Well done folks that looks like a hell of a trek to get to water cant believe we have had a couple of days nice weather for a change was beautiful for fishing yesterday too
