Last Trip 0f 2013

Myself, Ade and Paul headed for Coburg Wharf where we boarded Simon Parrys boat Suveran 2 for our final trip of the year.
On board I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting Mike and Dave from the Victoria Angling Club who I haven't seen for ages, Really good to see you boys

From leaving the lock to getting a line in the water was about 10 minutes which is the beauty of this venue.
Our target for today was Cod so baits were big cocktails of Lug, Squid, Mackerel And Crab.

It wasn't long before the first Codling was caught which was, I would guess, just under 1lb.
Ade was the next one to Catch with this fish weighing just under 4lbs

Then it was my turn

Then the youngest member on the boat caught this beauty which must have been around 4lb

A good number of decent Whiting were being caught also but unfortunately for the time being the Cod wernt playing
so Simon suggested we try nearer the mouth of the river opposite A couple of marks known as the Town Hall Steps.

And then Perch Rock where there were plenty of anglers fishing from the beach.

No Cod were to be found around here so we changed tactics and scaled down rigs and baits which produced really good Whiting and some tasty sized Dab

All day Simon kept the brews coming and a welcome hot pastie at lunch time and the laughs on board must have been heard from the shore at times

Then we were back off up the river for the last couple of hours to try for the cod again which doesn't take long when being pushed along by Suverans powerful twin engines

Amongst the Whiting came another Codling for Ade along with a Dab for company

Then it was back in, pack up, moore up, off the boat and into the car and on the way home for a bottle of wine and bore the Mrs to death with all the tales from the day

Thanks Simon for another great trip and a fantastic way to end this years boat fishing

Well done Logger great report and a great set of pictures. It's surprises me that your making that your last trip I thought you might get another in before Wednesday. cheers

Should have said last 'boat' trip I suppose as im hoping to get one more session in from the beach Cool

You don't mind catching Whiting when there like that and to be fair the Mersey does produce good Whiting Exclamation
