| The amount of people I speak too around here that admit to doing it is quite amazing really infact im surprised the nets dont all join up in one long line and stretch all the way to splash point None of them seem to see the immorality of it either It may be legal, within certain parameters, but is it right |

| If you don't think it is legal then notify the environment agency http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/fishing/118730.aspx .
If you think it is legal but don't think it is right then perhaps one for your MP or the "Fish Cod" Hugh Fearnley-Whitingstall . |

| The Netting Scum Are At It Again!
Probably one of the reasons why Pensarn has been fishing poorly of late. |

| look at the bass reports that have come off there over the last few months. it go's to show there not getting them all. ive had a few sessions on there over the last few months and the bloke's ive seen taking under size bass is worse than what the netters are taking. (JUST MY OPINION). |

| Agree with you Joe! How can anglers complain about the netters when they are also breaking the law by taking undersized bass? If they kill undersized fish on a regular basis, then their numbers will soon match those taken by the netters - I have no time for these people either. When I've challenged people in the past for doing it, you get "I deep hooked it and had to kill it". So killing the odd undersized fish is unfortunately a difficult one to eradicate! Back to the netters, these characters were surely not law abiding ? They will net around river mouths, take undersized fish and throw any discards on the beach before finally selling their catch. I understand these are all illegal practices? I have no problem with proper law abiding (licences) netsmen, as these people are sensitive to over fishing and know what is and what's not acceptable. Many of them have been involved with fishing families for generations so they are hardly going to kill off their livelihood - as you know! My experience (and a number of fishing friends too), has not been very successful the year at Pensarn. I'll try again in the next few days so let hope you are right in saying that "netters are not getting them all" |

- Last year I waited for the netters to show up at a certain mark not too far from pensarn. I was out in my boat at the time. When they had set their nets and gone and the tide had risen enough I threw the grapple hook out and dragged them all in. I have a licence to net, but very rarely do I net from the beach and when I do it is just to get a few mackerel for the freezer for the winter months. Any bass or other species that are caught and are still alive will be returned to fight another day.
Where do you get the licences from to net the beach ? |
