- We arrived in North Wales Saturday afternoon and after dropping our gear off at the Caravan headed off to Colwyn for a Coffee and abuse from Joe at Jokers collecting some quality Rag,Crab and fish baits for our Sunday session on the Island, after meeting Degs we headed off and after a reasonable walk and climb found ourselves on a nice looking rock mark with deep water at our feet, various baits were cast to the species we were targeting, and within a few minutes I had the first fish of the day a Ballan of around a 1lb shortly followed by a Pollock of similar weight,Degs followed the lead and landed a Dragonet and Tompot, meanwhile Ed was trying out his new ultralight spinning rod, matching reel and 4lb braid and soon discovered it was no match for a good Ballan the made short work of the braid, not to be out done a quick change to heavier mono put the odds in his favour and preceeded to land a nation of Corkwing and Ballans to Ragworm,I added Dab,Corkwing,Poor Cod,Grey Gurnard and Mackerel to the species tally while Degs added similar plus Goby and a Octopus high tide arrived along with a stiff breeze and choppy conditions but still nothing to fish baits so after a quick chat we headed off to Holyhead Breakwater for a few hours in to darkness, different story here as fish baits were gratefully accepted by the
Dogfish that patrol the End,all three of us landed a number of Dogs before trying for Conger and anything else that patrol close in, Pollock,Poor Cod and a solitary Rockling were landed before we called it a night in the early hours, species caught were Dragonet, Ballan,Corkwing,Dab,Dogfish,Pollock,Poor Cod,Grey Gurnard,Goby,Mackerel,Tompot,Five Beard Rockling and that Octopus, a good day with good company, roll on the next session ... Nice one, so where did you get that bait from ? _________________
