| Venue: Rhyl Weather: Sunny Boat: Jensen II Bait: peeler/lug/feathers/fresh mackerel Castwatch operatives must have heard that Sunny Rhyls biggest blanker was in town. Both chinooks were used to locate me but they were looking on the beach, and this time I was on Jensen II! A most enjoyable day. A few schoolies and a few smoothhound for the others on the boat. Plenty of dabs and pin whiting for me. Just 30 minutes to go, the football match was located on the radio, and a few of the England fans lost interest in their fishing. As I was either side of a welshman and a scotsman I thought it best to concentrate on my fishing, and that was to pay dividends! 4 small smoothies in 4 drops, what a result! When I pointed out to everyone else on the boat that the guy with the oldest gear [I like my mitchell 600] had caught the most, they told me as they were only small ones they did not count! Then, in the very dying seconds of the game, my forgotten tope bait took off deep in the direction of Prestatyn ! After a decent defence, it was in the back of the net! The other fishermen thought the contest was all over. Well it was now! [29lb, released] |

| Notbad - "You're going to need a bigger boat!" Fairziff - Can you buy chain mail swimming trunks ? Just a thought. My bait was a little tiddler, and there was nothing left of it. Seriously though, we were only a few hundred meters out at the last mark. There must be some way of fishing this from the shore - kite fishing, or letting a balloon drift out in the flow of the river, or maybe using kayak to take the bait out like I have seen them do for catfish in Spain. |

Fairziff managed a 300 yard Kayak assisted "cast" once, I managed much the same range in favourable wind and tide conditions with a balloon off holyhead. not sure what the range is on those radio controlled boats with rear opening doors some use in carp fishing is ( seem to cost as much as the real thing though ) Kite fishing is the barmpot kind of something that just has to be tried -reckon you are the man to do it Musselman, but I think the tide drag on a lotta yards of line over the snags of the rough ground needs thinking through and you wouldn't want a fish running off to freedom with a full spool of broken line trailing behind it. Phil "dogger" had some seriously big kites I seem to recall. I bet you watch Mythbusters! The more I look at the picture of you and that Tope the more I'm not sure which of you is which |

| Yes, there is a passing reseblance. For the record the one with it's own teeth is the fish.
Mind you, I don't think this is the first time this has happened recently ....

| On relflection, that is a heck of a fish for that mark! I'm sure the Prestatyn lads and charter skippers could shed more light on it, but I've not heard of a better fish from there.
Very well done! |

| I think the wool and rock method is definately something I will try - whilst also fishing conventionally with another rod. Otherwise it would be like going fishing just to have a single cast.
57lb - what a monster that was.
