Okay! After more than 20 yrs away from angling (coarse) I went on a Jenson boat the other week, had a good time and have booked to go out with them again (different boat) on Tuesday. Iv'e hit what many consider mid-life and decided I want to return to fishing, except sea this time.

In the last week, I've trawled endless websites and have purchased some kit to go spinning/plugging for Bass ultimately but have also light rig, rag and lures for other species/conditions..

My plan is to fish the morning high tide on great orme. I expect nothing, except gaining experience on remembering how to cast, get used to the gear, etc. Any fish, would be the icing on the fish pie!!!

I'll follow up with a report tomorrow on how I got on but if, in the meantime any regulars wish to offer any advice on whether I'm fishing the great orme rocks at the right tide or cast distance, etc, etc......... I'd be willing to read.

Cheers

good luck fishing today mate

Bad luck there,

in my experience telescopic rods don't last long anyway, 4 section should be a better long term bet.

watch rock venues in wet weather though, put a small telescopic tripod or sand spike on your shopping list and give the beach a go perhaps?

I know i've not got the right gear yet for shore and will over time procure the right equipment but when is the best time for fishing the dock road?

BTW. I'll let you know how I got on, on the boat tomorrow.

Cheers KH

look forward to hearing how you get on.
I haven't fished Dock Road myself - check out Wormy's reports, you'll find its a small tide venue for the reasons you've found.

For Bass off the beach you only need a spinning/bass/carp rod to zip out an ounce or two with a lug worm on a running ledger a few yards into a flooding gulley, that's what I did about 5 years ago ( after 25 years away from fishing ) a Bass duly obliged and now I can't leave it alone!

I catch more as the tide floods up from Low but watch you don't get cut off ( pay out line as you retreat if you want to fish at a greater distance than you can cast )

You never stop learning or buying tackle!

I caught one when I was at West Bay fishing last month it flew into my line and tangled its wing I nearly lost my rod, I had to hand pull the line and unwrap the line from around its wing don't they fight and peck. It flew away OK and made a right racket.
