Wise words at Gerrys of Morecambe & flatties earned in Rhyl 24.2.2012
I've been wearing the ink off the tackle adverts recently
wondering whether to spend my earnings by treating myself to a new rod,
I've studied the web and penned all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order,
Maybe a Zippie or a Century?
Or AFAW or, or, or,
8.58 am this morning on my way back to Rhyl I'm the first customer through the door at Glasgow Angling Centre, but they don't display many of the rods I'm wondering about most.
So on my way South a slight detour off the M6 and I'm visiting Gerry's of Morecambe for the first time,
The frontage isn't that impressive but the forrest of rods on show sure is and I was very, very impressed with the wise words and customer care from Chris at Gerry's as he took time to let me handle the Zippies, Century's, Triplex and some Italian job I can't recall the name of.
No immediate purchase but if I do indulge It'll certainly be as a customer of Gerry's.
Meanwhile on Morecambe's Northern edge, rods were out enjoying the sunshine but the tide was ebbing and there was no action around to justify setting up
I pressed the "Home" button.
Back in Rhyl and it wasn't long before I was out for Low to see if there where any fish anywhere,
The RNLI were doing their stuff,
5 gullies out the tide turned and my faithfull Daiwa Longbeam brought in a nice thick dab,
it just about made 1lb on my digital scales ( must put some reliable scales on my shopping list )
a couple of retreats later and Maestro beached a good flounder
1lb 11 oz on the erratic notbad scales and sent back to spawn
A nice enough result for a 90 minute session
So back to my rod question,
What's your advice, I'm an overhead thumper, I'm not unhappy with my 16 foot Longbeams really but would like more distance,
I want a fishing rod not a tournament rod and any new rod will have to be ready rung for, or custom built for a fixed Spool and for serious money it'll have to last through all the years
would a Zippie bring me sunshine,
will a Tip Tornado make me smile,
or will a tall, slim Italian make me happy -if only for a while?

you can't get that tune outta your head now!
