PostSubject: 4 days in Rhyl - In search of Bass   Tue Sep 13, 2011 9:28 am

Hi all
After asking on here for advise last week Here (thanks to everyone who replied, very much appreciated) I travelled down from Scotland on Thursday last week.
Arrived late afternoon unpacked and then decided to have a quick drive round in the evening just to check things out.
Got to splash point and met Congerman who was having a quick cast to use up some old worms. Had a good chat with him and picked up loads of advise.
Friday during the day was taken up with family stuff so I didn't get out till evening, up to Splash point again set up and fishing by 7.30 Very Happy
Conger turned up and then Wormy came and said hello.
Fishing was OK with pin whiting giving the worms a bashing, think I ended up with 5 but not sure.

Saturday me and the other half had a quick session at the blue bridge trying for some flatties and blanked.
More family stuff in the afternoon and then Splash point again in the evening, again conger and Wormy turned up and I also got to meet the Maestro, again got more great advise.
Again nothing but whiting but at least the sea was picking up a little bit.

Sunday I had a few hours on the beach fishing low tide, didn't really expect to catch (and didn't) was more taking the dog for a walk with some fishing rods.
Did meet up with one of the locals pumping worm.

Evening came and I had arranged to meet Wormy behind ASDA if he could make it, it was getting really windy now, got there about 3 1/2 hours before high so I could check out the gulleys.
Soon got pushed way up the beach to the pebbles at which point Wormy turned up.
He'd brought a rig for me (thanks mate, very generous of you,) so I thought I'd better do the decent thing and put it on straight away, reeled in only to find a doggy on the line, (the wind and waves had masked the bite) Was deep hooked so this little fella came home with me.

We soon decided that with the wind and rain it was getting time to leave. Wormy suggested stopping at splash point as this could be a bit more sheltered, so off we went.
He was dead right it was fine up there so out with the rods.
The waves were quite high but we were very sheltered and I still wanted a bass.
At about 12.45 my rod kicked like mad and then stopped, thought it had gone but then the line went slack, so that was me reeling like mad, connected with it and Wormy was sure it was my bass, he was dead right, this little chap came in.

As you can see from the photo I was really happy!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Just to finish the evening off I got a weaver on the last cast

Monday I was supposed to be heading home bit as the ferries to the island weren't running we decided to stay another day, had a couple of sessions but blanked, by now it was getting seriously rough.

I've had a great few days fishing , thanks again to everyone who replied to my original question and a really big thanks to all those guys I met who made me really welcome, you all know who you are.
I'll be back as soon as I can

Bob

P.S. Weather's still bad and I'm still here, another session this morning.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together!!!!

A fantastic report Bob and a great result.
As Congerman noted, you clearly came here on a mission and got a result.

Credit to the wonderful people that contribute to this site for all the advice and assistance.
You even met The Maestro!!!!!!!!

Look forward to meeting you sometime and feel free to give us some Mull reports.

Safe journey!

Nice one Bob, good pics and a well earned bass.

A bass took a spinner on the West coast of Skye three weeks ago so hopefully you'll be seeing some of 'em on Mull too

Wow! That's some thread revival!
I was quite surprised to log in and see this thread on the front page, can't believe it was very nearly 4 years ago.
I still log in every now and then to see how the place is fishing, don't get down that way very often now so I've not fished there since. And the fact that I've now got my own boat up here means I can fish around these parts more often, it may well be time to target a few skate, my local loch drops to over 130 meters so I'm guessing they'll be out there.

Sounds terrific Cool
I really hope you'll do some reports for us, we may be based in North Wales but we're not stuck here and we love to read tales from far and wide cheers
