As you will see from the photos, I had the end of the jetty to myself for the majority of the session (11:30am – 5:00pm).
The wind was “breezy” for the whole session and towards the end got quite strong.
Baits used were Black (frozen), Mack (salted) sands eels (frozen) and some salted prawns.
I fished one rod out to sea, with the other one fishing directly opposite the channel (there are some good wrasse in those rocks), and the float rod was also at work in the harbour area.
The only thing I caught out to sea was a star fish!
Within about an hour of arriving the rod fished across the jetty started to rattle a lot, and in I reeled a nice wrasse. Kept hitting the same spot when re-casting and had some good bites, about 3 times I had a nice weighty fish on the end, that would manage to either snap or bite me off!
Anyway the only other thing I caught on that rod was a scorpion fish, unless, you count the old bloke that turned up on the Harbour wall the other side of the channel to me, I had what was a cracking bite, only to be disappointed when I realised the old bloke had cast at 90 degrees from him and had caught me, he reeled in his gear and mine, separated them, then chucked mine back in for me to reel back.
This happened again about 30 minutes later just after 3 blokes turned up and set up next to me, only this time when he reeled the 2 rigs in he made a gesture and looked like he cut my leader, i reeled back to find my leader still there and the quick link, but he nicked my rig and weight ! I assume he was a local because he had a couple of blokes with him that weren’t fishing and a steady procession of people parking up next to him for a natter.
The 3 blokes that had turned up next to me were gobsmacked ! and suggested a few casts at him, but that’s not worth it. I did plan on going over for a chat with him when i finished, but he packed up and left after 20 minutes, I’m sure I will meet him again though.
Anyway, back to the fishing, the rest of the time the only fish caught were on the float rod, lots of Pollack, but only small ones, not the best session ever for that place but I put it down to it only being a small tide, packed up around 5 when the wind got quite strong.
