A QUICK ANSWER NO if you want to spend your time reeling in and untangling birds nests instead of fishing then go for one but untill you got the hang of catching fish then stick with a fixed spool

i would give it some time first, try and learn how to make rigs what venues to fish bait to use etc etc before upgrading your equipment, multipliers in my mind are a better piece of equipment but dont rush into it, i used a fixed spool for 6 months when i first started sea fishing then rushed into buying tackle i didnt need, when your ready to get yourself a multiplier post a few questions here and ask what would best suit you, you will almost certainly need to change your rod also, so your looking at spending roughly 200 quid just for these 2 things, so its a costly choice to make.

another good reason to come to the match on the pier if you dont want to fish you are welcome to come down and just be there to see what tackle others are using and help out as well

I agree! I'm sticking with my fixed spools.

Is it a brand new reel? Might need to play with the drag/ clutch settings.

Is the "fixed spool" turning when you wind in ( it shouldn't be)

Pulling the rod back and then winding against slacker line ( not too slack) takes a bit of
strain off the gears on the retrieve.

The sand eats them all in the end.

if ya do get a multiplier dont go cheap,id go for either a penn 525mag or a 6500ct mag elite.but make sure to wash the reel down after a session,as saltwater wrecks everything!!you can get a ct mag elite for around £90 and penns from£100
