Venue - Llam Carw, Amlwch
Tide - Low
Time - Night
Bait: Fresh Rag, Fresh Lug, Frozen Mackerel, Frozen Squid

I joined Headwyn and Squidward to fish a rock mark on Anglesey.
A few spots around Trearddur Bay were ruled out due to the strong SW wind.
Plan B was to shelter from the weather at Llam Carw.
We arrived at Amlwch harbour just before dusk and made our way to the mark just as light was fading.

Being only my 2nd venture onto 'the rocks', I had feelings of both excitement and a degree of uncertainty as I approached this venue.
Fortunately for me, today I was fishing with 2 anglers that have more experience than most when it comes to North Wales marks.

I found the clamber down the rocks to be trickier than I had expected.
With rain soaked jagged edges all around and a fairly steep final descent, I was starting to wonder why I was here and not safely curled up infront of the fire with a couple of beers watching the 2nd evictee get boo-ed on Celebrity Big Brother.

Praise be to the Lord!!!!! I made it down safely!!!!!!!!
Time to get setup and find my feet.

I was fishing my Abu Enticer 12ft Beachcaster and the 10ft Abu Conolon uptider. One at range, the other lobbed just beyond the rocks.

Squidward was first in.
A few Whiting and a couple of Doggies were keeping him busy.
Headwyn also found a few Whiting to get him off the mark.
A small Strap Conger made his trek worthwhile. No monster, but his target species bagged within the hour.

I had to wait for a couple of hours for my first fish.

Low water approached and the bites became more frequent.
Mainly Dogfish and Whiting.

Headwyn's next bite was from a crustacean.
His first ever Lobster!

Closely followed on the other rod with his second ever Lobster Smile

My excitement came 2 hours after low.
I had a couple of strong runs on the Conolon. Something decent was interested in my large fish baits.
Unfortunately, my lack of experience was found out as both fish dived for cover and I was snapped off on the rocks.

On Headwyn's final cast, a good knock meant that it was not to be a hatrick of Lobsters for him.
A Conger an ounce this side of 7lb gave me a glimse of what might of been.

With the tide now rising, it was time to head home.
The ascent up the rockface in darkness was far trickier than the earlier decent. I followed my able guides step for step.

A day later and the rigor of the terrain seems like a fond, if not too distant memory.
My inability to stand up unassisted however is a stark, if humourus reminder of yet another fantastic fishing adventure.

Happy Days!!!

Sorry about the `baptism of fire` Mike, the mark we had planned for would have been a lot easier on the legs, but the weather ruled that one out. We`ll have another go when the weather improves and the rays start to show up.

Brilliant Guys,

Mike, you've reached new altitudes with that title!
They can cramp your legs but never your style.

I thought id let Mike get in first with his report. Heres my version.

Due to the westerly winds, yesterdays planned trip to Trearddur Bay was postponed so Terry, Mike ( Fairziff ) and I fished Llam Carw over low last night.

We were sheltered from the wind and the rain wasnt too bad so after picking up bait and species hunt cards from Gazs on the way, we hoped for a good start to the hunt.

Terry was doing well early on, fishing 2 rods at distance and steadily bringing in Dogs and Whiting on both of them.

He also had a small Poor Cod.

Mike and i had both opted for one rod set up for Conger, with another fished further out with small hooks.

I managed a Whiting, then dropped a Dog off at the base of the rocks, before i had a bite on my Conger rod. The fish had managed to find a snag, but i freed it, and landed a little strappy on Mackeral.

As the tide dropped, both Mike and i joined Terry on his rock, and the skies cleared to give fantastic views of the night sky.

Mike had 2 good runs on his Conger rod, but both fish managed to take him into snags before he could get their heads up.

We were still catching the odd fish on the distance rods but on one retrieve, i was surprised to find this critter hooked!

My first ever.

Just like buses, next cast i caught this!!!

Bizarre, never had one in over 20 years of fishing, then 2 in consecutive casts!!!

We decided we had all had enough just before midnight, and started packing up. As i tackled down the distance rod, i had a run on the Conger rod. I struck into the fish and got its head up straight away, and it wasnt long before this came slithering up the rocks.

It was weighed at 06-13-00lbs, before a few photies.

Unfortunately, our camera wasnt well, so i hope Mike will have some better photos.

That was the last of the action, apart from the long walk back to the car.

All fish and Lobsters were returned.

Happy Days!

Good to see there's fish about.
Mike, did you not take your fish traps?

I wish I had done Tony. Although carrying them may have been a bit ambitious.

Next time maybe Smile
