PostSubject: SPINNING FOR BASS   Sat Jul 04, 2009 10:20 am

After reading recent reports on various forums I was inspired to have a bash at the bass on lures. With that in mind I decided to give Geoff's a visit to tackle up on whats hot at the moment. Picked up a new surface popper,blue/silver and some eddystone eels, both large and small. The chosen venue was the Little Orme over high Friday evening. Worked the popper and eels for an hour before high and half after without as much as a hint of a take. With the light now fading I decided to try a trusty old half rusted wedge. Five miutes later and fish on. At exactly the same instant, my mate Kev was also in. Mine was taken about 10 yards out whilst Kevs was about 40, so unsurprisingly my Silver Bullet was landed first at 39cm. With that landed safely, attention now turned to Kev who decided he needed help with the net as it was a decent fish. Sure enough, after a final attempt for freedom was thwarted, the Bullet was landed. A higher Calibre Bullet at 58cm and approx 5lb, give or take an ounce or two. So mission accomplished albeit on old gear.

A good double result there!

I've been trying the slug-go recently, but they can't touch the wedge for distance.

I found the Slug rigging (with a texposer hook) instructions on the back of the 6 inch and 7.5 inch packets are differently worded but both are less than clear, however the step by step photos in Sea Dangler issue 439 (April 16 to May 13th ) page 7 enlightened me.

I've lost various lures over the shallow shore reefs at Aberystwyth but my Slug-gos (Foxons St Asaph have them) are all intact, which must prove something.
Weed can be a nuisance over these reefs, though the Slugs aren't entirely weedless, especially with a swivel on or worse still with a drilled bullet to increase casting distance
-will have to track down the special shank weights and try those.
