Venue - Holyhead Breakwater
Tide - High
Time - Day
Bait - Fresh Lug, Frozen Mackerel, Fresh Rag
Date - 19th October 2009

There aren't too many venues that throw up the possibility of catching pretty much anything on a good day. With easy access and fishing from you car in the bargain, Holyhead Breakwater is always a popular choice.

My first stop was on the outside just before the start.
Fresh Ragworm on a single size 1 hook was just dropped down over the side.

In an instant, my rod was doubled over.
A fair sized Ballan got me off the mark.

Severel small fish kept me busy but the wind and swell made me decide to head down the Breakwater in search of some shelter.

Fishing inside at the end, I opted for smaller hooks and baits dropped down, with another rod whacked out with a Mackerel baited Pennel.

The big hooks remained quiet, but the small stuff was out in numbers.
Small Ballan certainly do punch above their weight!

The Pollock were................tiny!!!!!!

Plenty of small Corkwings still about.

A nicely marked Goby(Black?)

More Corkwings!

The bigger bait had no success, but tackle loss was becoming an issue.

I decided to head up top and fish the end by the lighthouse.

A couple of casts with whole worm baits led to nothing.

A great session as it turned out. The wind and swell was an issue, but I guess it is to be expected at this time of year.

Happy Days!!!

Well done Mike and nice photies.

For future reference its a Rock Goby. Identified by the orange band along the top of the dorsal fin.

The Black Goby can be identified by the first couple of spikes of the dorsal fin being longer than the rest and it should all be the same colour ( no orange/yellow band )
