With £3.5K up for grabs, this weekend sees the annual Prestatyn Open Fishing Festival.

Spread over Friday and Saturday evenings, this is a measure and release competition.

Word has it that due to clashes with some other competitions and the start of boot camp on the X-Factor, there is going to be a low turnout.

With a bit of local knowledge it might be worth having a bash!!!!

The official closing date for registration was the 14th September but you may be able to get involved by phoning 01824 712704

Good luck!

Ive just been for a walk down there and nearly 2 hours in i didnt speak to anyone who had caught. pale

Fishing 2 down and 2 up though so i predicted the fish would make an appearance shortly.

Tomorrow fishing is 18-30 until 22-30 so i will probably go down for the last couple of hours for a walk and then have a nice pint at the prize giving.

The superstars were out as usual.

I had a chat with Mike Flynn, the Welsh team manager, a couple of other internationals and found one of our club members, who i had gone down to see.

Julian Shambrook of Anyfish Anywhere, the sponsors wasnt fishing due to a shoulder injury but Kinmel Bays former world champion Alan Price was there somewhere so hell be in with a good chance.

Well worth a walk along tomorrow to see how the pros do it. affraid

Very poor by all accounts, with a few fish on Friday night once the tide had turned, but less on the Saturday which was four hours down to low.

Thw winner was from Northumberland. Second place went to a bloke from Grimsby and one of the Welsh internationals ( from Liverpool ) scratch was third.

One of our club members tied for fourth with 2 other anglers and ended up 6th on the fish count.

A total of 68 anglers fished over the 2 days.

A full report is bound to be in the local press this week.
