I don’t know if any of you lads have had this, over the last 12 -18 months I’ve occasionally had what feels like I’ve burnt my mouth on a hot drink. It would last for a couple of days then clear up. I even mentioned it to my GP and he said it sounded like an allergy to something. I was reading a Veals catalogue a while back, and on the top of the page with all the monofilament lines on, it said that they do not recommend putting line in your mouth to wet your knots with saliva, as it my cause an allergic reaction. I’ve been doing this for nearly fifty years without problems, so I stopped, and I’ve not had the problem since. Apparently modern co-polymer lines and fluorocarbons are chemically treated, and this is what causes the problem. I’m waiting for someone to start selling an aerosol called “SPIT” so I can tie some more rigs

over time you can become sensitized to chemicals . once this happens it will only get worse every time you come in contact with that chemical. so best to stay away from licking the line and also wash your hands after handling (eg dip them in the sea )
