11 of us met at Penmaenmawr for a low water match last night, the rain eased off for us to get started, but the wind soon picked up, it was gusting enough to knock rod rests over, with the odd bucket or lid disappearing at speed. After about 3 hours we were hit by the granddaddy of thunderstorms, lightning, thunder, hailstones, the works! The wind was horrendous, with horizontal rain enough to make me and a few others give up there and then and take shelter.

A few diehards held on out there ...

The first Llandudno Pier night session of this winter greeted us with fantastic mild and calm conditions.

With clear skies to boot, just being there was magical in itself.

It was a father and son mini meet on the end platform with Headwyn, Squidward, Tony and Simon fishing under the hue of the green light.

Darren had 6 dogs and a good codling which he lost right on the edge.

As for me it was dogs, whiting and small codling, the number of bites missed were uncountable. But the light show from the Lightning was amazing. then the rain came along with the thunder. Time to head for the car.

Good to be out.

Fished high tide at Penmaenmawr last night. Nice calm and mild evening. Baits used were lug, sandeel, mackerel and squid. It was Whiting from the off. Ended up with about 30 between us which were all returned.

Paul did have one blinding pull down which took the rod out of its stand but whatever it was was lost on the retrieve. We think, from the take, that it was a decent sized Bass.

We have tried putting photos in but keep losing the thread in our attempts to do so.

Tide - Low

Time - Day

Bait - Frozen Lug

Date - 11th November 2009

Low water again with the usual 1 rod, 3 hook flapper setup.

It was flat calm, so there were no guarantees today.

Luckily, just after low the bites started.

A few missed before this brace arrived. The larger going just over 30cm.

More missed bites before I had to retire to the Chippy.

Saturday evening, first time out in a couple of weeks, met up with Mehmet at the Hydro an hour before low,

no leaves around and he already had a keeper whiting on frozen lug.

Maestro built up a lead of another 7 of decent size and a flounder on the frozen stuff whilst I remained biteless on the fresh.

The Maestro joined me tonight.

Frozen Lug was used on 3 Hook Flappers.

Arriving 3hrs before High, things were slow for the first hour or so.

A few small knocks with just a tiny double header for The Maestro.

An hour before high, someone turned the switch on.

The bites became regular and this time we were hooking up.

A steady stream of decent sized Whiting kept us busy.

I received a text this morning at 8-30am from Craig, asking did i fancy a trip out today, which was back on because his wife decided not to go out.

So armed with the New Shakespear 12' rod and reel to match we made our way.

Venue - Holyhead Breakwater

Tide - High

Time - Day

Bait - Fresh Lug, Frozen Mackerel, Fresh Rag

Date - 19th October 2009

There aren't too many venues that throw up the possibility of catching pretty much anything on a good day. With easy access and fishing from you car in the bargain, Holyhead Breakwater is always a popular choice.

My first stop was on the outside just before the start.

Fresh Ragworm on a single size 1 hook was just dropped down over the side.

Last January I asked Tom if there were any fish he wanted to catch this year. His answer was Bass and Dogfish.

He has already caught 2 Bass this year, while I haven’t had one and I decided tonight was the right time to get him his Dog.

After the good numbers at the Shore league match at Tan Lan last week, the venue didn’t need thinking about. A couple of packs of Lug, 1 of small sandeel and a Mackeral from the freezer and we were ready to go.

Conditions were warm and ...
